L. Shane Stokes has been with Lynch, Chappell & Alsup since 1987, and has been a shareholder since 1993. His primary areas of practice are estate planning and probate, guardianships, adoption, and corporate and transactional law. Mr. Stokes has extensive experience in estate planning and probate matters and is a frequent speaker on such topics. A substantial portion of Stokes’ practice is devoted to assisting elderly and disabled clients with governmental benefits.

Stokes handles estate and probate litigation, including will contests, division of non-probate assets, and contested guardianships, as well as administrative appeals for governmental benefits.

Mr. Stokes handles adoptions of all types – domestic, international, private, agency, and CPS adoptions, representing birth mothers and fathers, adoptive parents, agencies, and children.

In addition, Stokes has represented clients in the areas of family, banking, commercial, and employment law litigation, as well as being the principal author of appellate briefs in cases involving such diverse issues as division of retirement benefits upon divorce, real property rights, estate administration, guardianships, complex banking issues, employment law, fiduciary duties, and rights of the elderly and disabled.

Stokes is a certified mediator focusing primarily on family law, probate, and fiduciary matters. Stokes is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Midland County Bar Association, and the Real Estate, Trust and Probate Section of the State Bar of Texas. Mr. Stokes is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern and Western Districts of Texas, as well as United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Stokes is active in community and civic activities, including serving on the Boards of Directors of Community and Senior Services and the Midland Chamber of Commerce, and as a Task Force Chairman for Midland Vision 2000 and Beyond.

Stokes received his Bachelors in Business Administration in Accounting, magna cum laude, from Texas Tech University, in 1984, and earned his juris doctorate from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1987. He was licensed to practice law in 1987 and has been with Lynch, Chappell & Alsup his entire career.
