Gary D. Douglas Bio

Gary D. Douglas returned to his hometown of Midland to practice law upon his graduation in 1979 from law school at the University of Texas at Austin. Gary was in private practice for several years at what was then Midland’s largest law firm. Gary’s early practice focused on oil and gas and banking, with significant exposure to real estate and corporate work.

In 1987 Gary joined Wagner & Brown, Ltd., a large independent oil and gas exploration and production company, as its General Counsel. Gary remained with Wagner & Brown, Ltd. until 2022 when he resigned as Co-President and General Counsel to join LCA. During Gary’s tenure at Wagner & Brown, Ltd. he was responsible for supervising, coordinating, and managing all legal functions of the company and its affiliated entities, including the legal affairs of its principals and their respective families. Wagner & Brown, Ltd. and its affiliated entities were engaged primarily in the businesses of oil and gas exploration and production in the United States and internationally; real estate; the manufacture, installation, and operation of facilities for dispensing compressed natural gas (CNG) for fueling vehicles; and the manufacture and sale of high-performance thermoplastic powder coatings.

In 2005 Gary was selected by Texas Lawyer Magazine as one of the top 50 in house counsel in Texas.

Gary practices in the Firm’s Transactional Practice Group handling a wide variety of matters, including purchase and sale transactions, banking, real estate, general corporate work, review and preparation of myriad documents related to the oil and gas industry, entity selection and formation, and advising clients on legal matters related to their business.

Gary and his wife, Paula, have one daughter and two grandsons who are also Midland residents. Gary has been and remains extremely active in the community and his church and is widely recognized for his commitment and leadership skills.
